Good pop songs have the ability to move your mood and soul. Adam Bainbridge aka Kindness talks about the value of pop music, and how profound the 5% good can move you, even though 95% of pop music is trash. Kindness’ single House is a moving, deep pop song. Adam’s beachy voice doesn’t have to scream threw the mellow tones to get your attention. House is catchy and a mood pick-me-upper. Kindness just released a somewhat corny video that doesn’t even play the whole single, a pretty bold move assuming you can catch people’s moods with a five second segment of your song. ...
Welcome to another world, another space galaxy. CopperWire’s debut album Earthbound pushes the listeners experience beyond the confines hip-hop. While taking on space-age personalities, Ethiopian-Americans Gabriel Teodros, Meklit Hadero, and Burntface create a complex and earth-shattering vibe with their intergalactic album. Phone Home is their second single off of Earthbound, connecting ET’s famous line “phone home” to a more cultural connection in which each of their lives is connected with the other ET, Ethiopia. CopperWire has gone even further into the future by creating a phone app in which you can make your own remix of Phone Home by typing in...
Mar has done a lot of collaborations with FS Green and Full Crate. His smooth and shining vocals definitely can woo a crowd. While he has done a couple of tracks by himself, covering some well known singles, Seeing Her Naked is his first solo EP. While the EP is short and sweet, it’s full of baby-making music. Seeing Her Naked is sexy and Mar shines threw as a truly talented vocalist....
Don’t funk with my groove, whatever you do. These ladies have created a lovely women’s anthem, better yet they put visuals to the killer track QueenS, having beautiful woman jumping around in their fresh threads. I was also happy to catch the video because a very good friend of mine styled the entire video. All we need to get down ladies is our best girlfriends and our top notch fashion statements of the moment. I’m looking forward to THEESatisfaction dropping their debut album at the end of the month....
I first heard this track when I went to see Theo live earlier this year at 9:30 club. While the single is a lot different from the 80′s inspired tracks that Theo usually belts out, the crowd went wild for this hard hitting track featuring A$AP Rocky. Rose Island, Theophilus’ next album will be released in May of this year. While stepping out of his box with Big Spender I think he definitly has everyone’s attention, I’m looking forward to hearding what Rose Island has in store....
Two talented artist and two banging singles. Amsterdam’s Full Crate got together with Chicago born Jesse Boykins III when Jesse happened to be in town for none other than the Red Bull Music Academy. I’ve gushed enough, letting the world know how I love these two artist, so I’m going to keep it short and sweet. Start off slow, then pick up the pace, take a listen my friends....
I’ve found my official summer song. With a bit of repetition that reminds me of a modern 80′s pop song, 110% blends the best of Jessie Ware’s vocals and Julio Bashmore’s production. You may have heard Jessie’s voice on SBTRKT’s single Right Thing To Do. Jessie is stepping into the musical world with a big bang, especially after making a killer track with Sampha called Valentine. The sweet, soft, and subtle voices of 2012 seem to be taking stage these days, and I’m liking it....
With a lovely voice and some grungy tunes Kwes has got me hooked with his delightful track Igoyh. With a beautiful combination of xylophone and loads of bass, he’s sticking out like from the rest of the London double and triple threats. He’s spent a lot of time behind the scenes working with the likes of The XX and Joe Goddard, but now he’s stepped into the limelight with his debut EP. His first single off the EP Bashful is straight love for indie pop. I’m really loving his complex sound and I’m looking forward to the EP. His debut album...
Move over Wu-Tang, if Quakers were ever to take the stage in it’s complete entirety, you would have emcees spilling off the stage. Quakers is a hip-hop collective boasting 35 members which orbits around a core of three producers: Fuzzface, 7-Stu-7 and Katalyst. Stones Throw just released their self titled album Quakers yesterday, and the singles I’ve heard so far are hitting hard. The production is funky and fun, while the emcees are spitting serious rhymes. This is hip-hop folks....
New Zealand has hit us with another super group by the name of Funkommunity. Issac Aesili released a deep, dark electro album called Karlmarx and after collaborating with Rachel Fraser on the album they decided to set up the five piece band called Funkommunity. Issac is a DJ, producer, trumpet player, just a full rounded musician. Creating fun upbeat music for the people, Dandilion is a lovely track off their upcoming album Chequered Thoughts being released this May....
Congo Sanchez has made his mark all over the DC music scene. When he’s not touring with Thievery Corporation or See-I as their drummer, he’s in the studio creating his unique and delightful Afro-Latin Dub sounds. He’s talented on the drums and has the ear for good quality music. He’s releasing his solo debut on ESL records this April. From the mouth of the musician he says, “I embodied Afro-Cuban and Haitian rhythms while accompanying for world dance classes, and began composing pieces for Solo Percussion and Chamber Jazz Ensembles….built a DIY home studio and started to produce my own beats with these...
