About the DJ’s
I’m not a pioneer of any Disco, Hip Hop, House or Techno scene. I never saw Larry Levan spin at the Paradise Garage. I never went to the Loft to jam with David Mancuso or the Gallery to see Nicky Siano nor did I ever jack to what Ron Hardy was playing at the Music Box. I’ve never even been to Detroit! In fact, you’ve probably only heard of me (or heard me play) if you’ve seen me DJ in Brooklyn, Manhattan or London.
An American born DJ of Latin American descent, I was born in Chicago, IL in 1978 to an Ecuadorean woman & Cuban man. The music I heard growing up ranged from Donna Summers, Jackson 5, Michael Jackson & James Brown to Celia Cruz & Beny More. When I moved to Miami in the summer of 1990 those influences would eventually morph into The Beatles, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Gangstarr, Wu-Tang Clan & 2Pac.
In 2002, on the 2 year anniversary of my father’s death, I moved to New York City to pursue a career in Filmmaking. After working in Reality Television & Advertising as a Producer for 5 years, I became disillusioned with my career path and my passions rapidly turned from Filmmaking, Directing and Editing to learning to DJ full time. My goal was to incorporate all the great Latin & African music from the 60′s & 70′s into my sets along with the Funk, Soul, Rock & Disco of that era along with Hip Hop & House.
GIRL VS MACHINE
(better known as TJ) touched her first pair of turntables two years ago in a brooklyn apartment and she’s been hooked ever since. growing up around music and once a drummer in a band, her extensive catalogue of all kinds of music and seemingly innate ability to command a crowd has made her a favorite in local dives and lounges all over Brooklyn.
